Wellington & The Cape Wine Region, South Africa.
Doolhof Wine Estate, the jewel in the Bovlei crown, nestles in its own verdant valley on the outskirts of Wellington. Sheltered on three sides by the Groenberg, Limietberge and Hawekwa mountains, at the high end of the valley beneath Bainskloof, it is easy to see why settlers in past centuries named this land “Doolhof” - or “labyrinth”. The elaborate terrain offers a wonderful variety of rich soils and microclimates that can be matched to the needs of the different vine cultivars.
Wellington, in the heart of the Cape Winelands and rich in cultural, religious and educational history, is an unsurpassed area to enjoy the scenery of the Western Cape in South Africa. Around 45 minutes’ drive from Cape Town International Airport, the Cape's various wine and brandy routes, not to mention the fruit routes, are all an easy day trip. Spring sees the grand displays of wild flowers of the Cape West Coast, a pleasant few hours’ journey by car.
The sophisticated delights of Cape Town, and the sunny golden beaches of the Cape Peninsula are within an hour’s reach. Historic Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Tulbagh and Paarl are neighbouring towns, each boasting attractions of their own. Doolhof is a member of the Wellington Wine Route, and we always welcome visitors to the Estate to taste our growing range of award-winning wines. We also offer overnight accommodation for two in our beautifully appointed, air conditioned self-catering guest cottage.
